One of the things we at the L really value about our annual Literary Upstart readings is the sense of community at the events, so often lacking in this variegated city’s cultural scene. (Also: booze, so much booze.) So it’s exciting for us to present a Best of Literary Upstart reading, featuring 2008 Lit Up winner Lauren Wilkinson and finalists from years past, this Saturday as part of Lit Crawl NYC.

Q: Wait, what’s a Lit Crawl NYC?
A: Well, basically, it’s a three-neighborhood bar crawl, with literature.

This Saturday, September 27, start out on the Lower East Side at 6pm, to see (longtime Upstart Spokesjudge, coincidentally) Ben Greenman read at Happy Ending, or a reading curated by Farrar, Straus and Giroux at R Bar. At 7:15 the action shifts to Common Ground, in Alphabet City, where our reading will take place. (Simultaneously, the New York Tyrant will host contributors at Arrow Bar.) Then, at 8:30pm in Williamsburg, BOMB Magazine runs things out of Pete’s Candy Store, and event spearheder Opium Magazine‘s own (Upstart-inspired) Literary Death Match has its reading at Supreme Trading. And after the show is the after-party, also at Supreme Trading, where you can come for the sense of community, also the booze, so much booze.
