This wasn’t in the magazine, but The L‘s own self-proclaimed Ra Ra Riot stalker operative just alerted me to the fact that the fabulous, all-too-charming indie chamber-pop band is playing a free show tomorrow at 8 pm at Soundfix in Brooklyn. Their feet-tappy, hook-laden songs about love and mortality are tempered with yearning violin and cello swells: Arcade Fire with more pop and less dramatics, born out of Syracuse University dorm rooms instead of the bitter chill of Montreal. If you aren’t familiar with Ra Ra Riot or their debut The Rhumb Line, may I suggest heading to their MySpace immediately and streaming the undeniable “Each Year”? You’ll be humming it all night, trying to compete with Wesley Miles’s falsetto.
If you aren’t in possession of tickets to their sold-out Bowery Ballroom (10/16) and Music Hall of Williamsburg (10/17) gigs, definitely head to Soundfix tomorrow because the five-piece are heading to Europe at the end of the month. Ra Ra Riot will also be on Letterman tonight, so set your DVRs!
