Stolen from The L‘s own carefully curated Daily Listings, here’s a sampling of things I think you should do tonight and tomorrow as a way to escape our bitter reality. Good to go!

Tonight: The New Year
Okay, so you couldn’t justify buying hella pricey tickets to that New York Magazine 40th Anniversary Party featuring the National and Grizzly Bear? Bummer. May I suggest hitting up the New Year show and letting the brothers Kadane soothe your ruffled spirits with their latest slow-core offerings? Your heart will thank you.

8pm; $15. Music Hall of Williamsburg, 66 N. 6th St, at Wythe Ave;

Tomorrow: Lady Riot’s Costume Ball
I know there are some people in this city who are as obsessed with Renaissance Faires and other period shit as I am. What, like you don’t constantly have the inexplicable urge to get dressed up in an elaborate costume you hand-sewed while watching Real World/Road Rules Challenge reruns? And like you would prefer not to observe some professional ballroom dancers cut a rug, 18th-century-London style?! WHY EVER NOT?! Yes, I’ve seen the BBC’s Pride & Prejudice way, way, way too many times. But I still think baroque dance is cool. Or, whatever, if you’re too hip for this, check out Liam Finn and the Veils at the Bell House for $10. Sigh.

8pm; $20. 92nd St Y, Lexington Ave at 92nd St,
