Now we know what the Gossip Girl spin-off is going to be about — a disappointing young Rufus and Lily snoozefest of a storyline we nevertheless plan on watching regularly. We’re frustrated with the news, so we decided to cheer ourselves up by wasting a whole three minutes of our time playing this Gossip Girl Love Connection game over at People.com. It’s hilariously, horribly simple-minded, even if we hadn’t been zealotic devotees of the show since day one. Seriously? Are you seriously asking us whether Chuck hooked up with Blair or her minion Isabel? Amateurs. Obvs, we scored 7 out of 7 and have achieved momentous Love Guru status. We’re not bragging, just stating a fact.
But one thing did trip us up, and it’s an issue of historical back-story. After answering the question that linked Dan with Vanessa, People asserted that while we, the loyal viewers, never had a chance to witness the Brooklynites as a couple, “the best buds once dated.” We thought it was just a messy, unresolved situation ending in a love letter from Vanessa to Dan that came too late — not an actual BF/GF thing. Internet searches have proved fruitless. Certainly, in Cecily von Ziegesar’s novels, upon which the TV show was based, they were an official couple. But, as far as we knew, never in the CW series’ was this so aggressively implied. True? Fuck no? We’re scared and don’t know what to believe. Hold us.
