As part of its Emerging Writers Group program the East Village’s Public Theater offers free staged readings of new plays every Monday at 3pm and 7pm. Today’s free show is The October Crisis (To Laura), written by Alejandro Morales and directed by Ken Rus Schmoll, set during the Cuban Missile Crisis. In it, a famous singer is transported back to her debut in a Havana nightclub years earlier, and this international stand-off takes on all manner of personal and psychological implications. The readings are free, but reservations are strongly recommended. Call 212-967-7555 for tickets to the 3pm or 7pm shows.
