Way 2 Go Gays! New York One Step Closer to Growing Up and Being Mature About Things

f111/1242228725-gay_marriage.jpg Along with Hooters and David Gregory, the idea that two grown-ups should be denied the right to marry has long depressed me about America. The idea that two gay New Yorkers should have to travel to Assachusetts has been even more troubling. (Or Maine? Really? Maine beat us to this?)

Well, as the Times reports, the New York State Assembly voted last night, 89 to 52, in favor of allowing gay marriage, including five yea votes from Republicans. The legislation will now move to the Senate, so things aren’t finished yet, especially when you have hateful jackass bigots like Bronx Democrat Ruben Diaz Sr. involved. (He’s afraid the gays will make him kiss other men and steal all the children and that dogs will be allowed to finally marry cats. So he’s planning a rally.)

Other lovely groups involved in publicly battling their own repressed and shameful urges include the criminally misnamed New Yorkers for Constitutional Freedoms who are “dedicated to influencing legislation and legislators for the Lord Jesus Christ.” Which seems pretty much what the Founding Fathers had in mind, no?
