12e6/1245435411-collinpeterson.jpgAn easy one this week. As we continue to track, with many more Green Villain than Green Hero posts, the progress of the Waxman-Markey climate bill, we see that both the New Republic‘s Vine blog and Treehugger point out that the bill is running into some serious obstruction by the Agriculture Committee Chairman, who is upset on behalf of farmers who don’t want to require EPA approval for offsets. Plus, you know:

“We’ve just had the biggest floods and coldest winters we’ve ever had,” he said. “They’re saying to us [that climate change is] going to be a big problem because it’s going to be warmer than it usually is; my farmers are going to say that’s a good thing since they’ll be able to grow more corn.”

Congressional Democrats!

(Bonus: not only is Collin Peterson ugly and holding energy legislation hostage through his firmly held committee chairmanship, he also may be a secessionist. In which case you’d think he’d want to do more to reduce pollution in his new country’s enormous neighbor, regardless of the imagined costs.)
