The entire internet, it seems, is already well aware of the wonderful “Hellhole Ratrace” by the wickedly un-google-able new Matador signing, Girls, but it doesn’t mean we shouldn’t all watch the video one or fifty more times. Their debut album, titled simply Album, is on on 9/22, and I still haven’t heard it, but I can only assume it’s full of more songs that answer the question “What would it sound like if Elvis Costello listened to Grandaddy and the Swirlies?”
Now go ahead, watch the video again, and marvel at the fact this dude wrote the lines “I’m sick and tired of the way that I feel / I’m always dreaming and it’s never for real / I’m all alone with my deep thoughts / I’m all alone with my heartache and my good intentions” without sounding like an idiot, but, you know… the opposite of an idiot.
You know, while we’re at it, let’s all listen to “Park the Car by the Side of the Road” by the Swirlies, too. Man, the Swirlies were awesome.
