The latest installment in the Public Theater’s Emerging Writers Group, Red Rooster (readings at 3pm and 7pm, RSVP at 212-967-7555), tells of a Hurricane Katrina refugee taken in as a caregiver by an elderly man in New Jersey with the understanding that upon his death she’ll take possession of his home. Their symbiotic relationship takes a bit of a hit when the old man’s son shows up snooping for inheritance.

At the 45 Bleecker Theater, a free performance of Nick Raio’s new play Sheila and Angelo stars Sopranos character actors Dan Grimaldi and Marcia Haufrecht. The play is set in a Florida retirement community where the two meet and fall in love. The free performance begins at 7pm, reservations can be had at 212-260-8250.
