The second annual Tel Aviv-Yafo Biennial kicks off today, and amid all the shows in galleries and conventional exhibition spaces, one group of video artists is taking their work out to sea. Because Palestinian artists refuse to participate in exhibitions in the Tel Aviv Biennial as protest, the Ex-Territory Project has organized an exhibition of video art to be projected onto the sails of a donated boat in exterritorial waters in the Mediterranean off the coast of Tel Aviv.

After the inaugural show running parallel to the biennial, the floating video show will continue on a five-year, around the world trip, showing works by artists from countries that limit their ability to show outside their borders. No word yet on when the Ex-Territory boat will sail into New York harbor, but given our fondness for floating art communities, you can be sure we’ll let you know.
