Strange things are afoot over at camp Vampire Weekend this morning. On what appears to be a microsite for their new album, Contra, there’s a currently a countdown, set to reach zero at around 2:30 this afternoon. Best we can hope for is a new single, I’d say, but who knows. In an interview with Stereogum last week, keyboardist Rostam Batmanglij talks about a turn of events that’s allowed the band to try some fun new things.
Another advantage of the pushed back release date (Contra was going to be out this fall), is that the band can get together and make videos and extra pieces to build up excitement for the release — or even more excitement, to be accurate. “We’re going to be releasing some weird content,” he says. “I don’t want to let the cat out of the bag but … we want to fuck with people a little bit. It’s more fun to fuck with people before your records come out than after.”
I’ll report back later this afternoon. Until then, I will try to distract myself and pretend I’m not really excited. [via Stereogum]
