During a preview performance of Manhattan Theatre Club’s The Royal Family—the Broadway revival scheduled to open Thursday at the Samuel J. Friedman Theater for a limited run through the end of November—actor Tony Roberts began fumbling with his lines, had to sit down and, after the curtain came down and the performance was canceled, was rushed to a hospital.
While there’s no news of Roberts’s health or where this leaves the production in light of its imminent opening, NY1 reports that the actor (whose easy manner, charm and charisma you may have learned to love in numerous Woody Allen films) is in stable condition. Hopefully he’ll be back in The Royal Family by Thursday.
Update: ArtsBeat reports that Roberts is doing fine and hopes to be back in the show soon. Producers will announce tomorrow who, if anyone, will be replacing him and for how long.
