Circle Mirror Transformation

After a critically and financially successful, twice-extended Off-Broadway run back in October at Playwrights Horizons, the theater announced yesterday that Annie Baker”s Circle Mirror Transformation will return for a one-month run beginning December 17. The play, about a group of directionless New Englanders who sign up for drama classes at a small Vermont town’s community center, was heralded as an entertaining satire of theater games and general acting nuttiness, with an undercurrent of raw sadness, desperation and uncertainty.

In nearby extension news, The New Group’s The Starry Messenger at Theatre Row, starring Matthew Broderick, got a two-week extension through December 19. Apparently rumors that Broderick couldn’t remember his lines when previews began didn’t dissuade audiences (in fact, maybe the prospect of a star flubbing lines brought more people in).
