Book Trailers… Meh (Here’s the New Joshua Ferris Joint)

As all some a few of you know, I’m really down with the Electric Literature short films based on a sentence from one of their fine stories: these shorts are discrete works of art, thoughtful, beautiful, arresting, more art in reaction than art as translation. So it seems weird to me that most book trailers, which have the entire world of a novel to engage with, don’t really measure up. Case in point is the trailer below for Joshua Ferris‘s upcoming title, The Unnamed, which consists of a bunch of hand-held POV shots edited together (hey look, there’s the Brooklyn Bridge, the Williamsburg Bridge, the Hudson Valley!). It’s boring, and doesn’t make me want to read the book.
