- Nobody’s after Finian’s Lucky Charms
While one Broadway show (Wicked) smashed its own record week over the holidays, making over $2 million in ticket sales, other shows previously rumored to be on the chopping block continued their downward spiral towards closure. Last week producers for the revivals of Finian’s Rainbow and Ragtime announced that their shows would be closing on January 10 and 17, respectively.
The latter’s closing might be seen as another disappointment for Broadway fans in light of fairly positive reviews, but there’s no pot of gold at the end of Finian’s Rainbow. As our own Henry Stewart put it in his review:
The musical is a relic, its revival a throwback to the post-war optimism under which it was conceived—and which now seems quaint, if not dangerously misguided.
I suspect that the producers agree.
