Iggy & the Stooges 1973 masterpiece Raw Power is getting the long overdue deluxe box set treatment. April 27th will see the release of a 3-disc set, featuring a remastered version of David Bowie’s original mix, the Georgia Peaches bootleg, soundboard recording of a 1973 Atlanta concert, a handful of unreleased tracks, a 48-page booklet and, most notably for me, an hour-long video documentary about the making of the album and a replica of a Japanese “Raw Power” 7″.
Iggy Pop was recently reunited with James Williamson, who played guitar on the album and then quit music altogether when the band broke up in 1974. Original guitarist Ron Asheton, who switched to bass for Raw Power but then switched back when the band reunited in 2003, died last January in his home at age 60. The band is being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in March, and they’ve scheduled two shows as part of All Tomorrow’s Parties’ “Don’t Look Back” series, where they’ll play Raw Power in its entirety. Rumor has it a full tour is to follow. [Rolling Stone]
