Designer and programmer Mauricio Giraldo Arteaga has created a very fun, very comprehensive Videogame Timeline that, appropriately, also looks quite a lot like an old video game. For instance, I didn’t know that the Magnavox Odyssey (1972), seen at right entertaining some young people who are now old, was the first home console to hit the market, three whole years before the Atari system that everyone remembers so fondly.
Also, the earliest game on the timeline is a 1947 shooter called Missile Simulator—obviously tapping into that World War II veterans market. Five more games would be created before the appearance of Pong some 25 years later. Of course, you can’t play any of these classic arcade games on the timeline itself, but, you know, learning is fundamental. (DesignYouTrust)
