Sexy Venus in Fur Extends at Classic Stage

According to ArtsBeat, the Classic Stage Company announced today that its premiere production of David Ives’ re-imagining of Leopold von Sacher-Masoch’s 19th century erotic, S&M-y novella Venus in Fur has been extended by two weeks, and will now close on March 7. The decision reportedly has not only to do with great ticket sales (which you can get in on for cheap right now), but also because the production, which stars Wes Bentley and Nina Arianda, is being scouted for a possible commercial run, maybe even on Broadway. And given the general mood of belt-tightening on Broadway these days, the appeal of a relatively cheap show with two fairly well-known actors is obvious. Also obvious: trailers for plays, especially non-musical plays, make good shows look laughably terrible.
