The Times reported yesterday that famed rock and roll songwriter and performer Dale Hawkins died this past Saturday at his home in Little Rock, Arkansas, after a battle with colon cancer. Along with lead-guitarist James Burton, Hawkins wrote the song “Suzie Q,” which was covered most famously by Creedence Clearwater Revival, and least famously by me, in my bedroom at age 15, when it was one of approximately three songs I learned how to play on the guitar. After the jump, versions by CCR, the Stones and an awesome guitar teacher dude in a Hawaiian shirt. God, such a good song.
