Even the Times is now reporting on the big game James Cameron is currently talking about Glenn Beck (who once asked Cameron if he was the Antichrist, more or less): He’s “a fucking asshole,” a “madman,” and as to his views on global warming, noted environmentalist Cameron said, “I want to call those deniers out into the street at high noon and shoot it out with those boneheads.” (“He certainly is dangerous, and I’d love to have a dialogue with him.” I’m not entirely sure Cameron thinks about debate in the same way that we do.)

Inasmuch as both of them love guns, and are complete megalomaniacs with enormous sentimental streaks, this is a pretty even matchup, except for the part where Cameron is Frank Capra and Beck is Father Coughlin.

Anyway, a public debate tour is now inevitable, of course, because we love falsely civil reconciliations of intractable differences in this country. At the end, Cameron will think he’s won, only for the silvery metal skeleton of Beck’s torso to spring back to life and try to throttle him.
