Young Jeezy Now Just “Jeezy,” Still Awful

Young Jeezy is now just Jeezy

To whomever is still paying attention to him: Young Jeezy (real name Jay Jenkins) wants hereafter to be referred to as simply Jeezy. As HipHopWired reports, the name adjustment has been in the offing for a few months now, but wasn’t made official until now. Other MCs who’ve gone through this hip-hop rite of passage include the likes of Lil Bow Wow and Sean “Puff ‘P. Diddy’ Daddy” Combs.

Young Jeezy, for those of you who don’t know (consider yourselves lucky), has made a name for himself as a slow, seething, growling MC whose half-assed verses have become ubiquitous for constantly being featured alongside just about every smooth rapper or singer with a silky voice: Usher, Rihanna, Jay-Z, Akon, Kanye West, T.I., Christina Milian and more. He’s also released full albums, which must be unlistenable. On the plus side, now making fun of him requires one less syllable—next year he’ll just start going by “Jee.”

  • terrible post. stop talking about rap.

  • Boy are you guys on the wrong side of taste on this one. Young Jeezy is one of the best rappers there is. Go Crazy, Put On and I Love It are all classic songs to name a few. What kind of blogs or magazines are you reading where people are saying Young Jeezy is bad? I was referred here by Flavor Pill and I for sure will never follow up on any links that leads to L Magazine. Please get with it before posting stupid stuff about things you have no idea about. Here’s the Metacritic scores for all his albums: http://www.metacritic.com/search/process?sort=relevance&termtype=all&ts=young+jeezy&ty=2&button=search

  • @Bort: Hi, so nice to meet you! I feel like we have so many things to talk about!

Firstly, if by “get with it” you mean “say exactly what everyone else says” (just like you!), you don’t understand the purpose of criticism. This is not a criticism of your comment, but a statement of fact.

Secondly, I didn’t refer to other blogs or magazines to form my opinion of (Young) Jeezy, but rather developed it based on my own tastes in rap. You should try it sometime instead of using Metacritic to tell you what you should or should not like.

Thirdly, I’m glad you like Jeezy, I do not. Have a nice weekend!

  • @sutton: We’re duly impressed that you were able to tender such a stunning critique of Jeezy all by yourself (a remarkable feat of intuition, considering you’ve never heard any of his albums). Several 40-year olds in Cobble Hill will now avoid downloading “Trap or Die 2″ thanks to the critical scalpel of L Magazine. Take that, BMF.

  • It’s Young Jeezy! I promise you will like him. Why do you think everyone has him partying on all of their songs. Rihanna, Jay-Z, Kanye West. He’s your favorite rapper’s favorite rapper and it’s time you gave him the credit he deserves. I think you made a rash decision and haven’t heard much of him and you assumed your audience was on the “Jeezy sucks” bandwagon. It was just too harsh and rash and it was alarming to see in a post about his name-changing.

  • that was bad info, actual new name is Old Cheeze.

  • Who ever said this is dont no the streets or music. All this bullshit music out like soulja boy, lil bossie, and guccie mane that shit suck!!!!Jezzy hot and say some of the coldest shit cause its real. Its cats like you really scared of the real rappers like scarface, Doc dre, and icecube.
