James Hetfield Was Robbed! Maybe, Possibly, He Thinks!

Buried down below the fold over at the Daily Swarm this morning, this story isn’t getting a whole lot of play, and I’m not sure why, because it is awesome. While dining on steaks and salads at a restaurant in Moscow, Hetfield and the rest of the band wracked up a bill that Hetfield, who paid with a credit card, thinks should have totaled $270 USD. Here’s where things sorta stop making sense…

When Hetfield noticed that he’d been charged more than twice that amount, he went back to the restaurant to complain, and he was presented with a “receipt for the disputed amount with his signature on it.” Now, I’m not sure if there was a language thing happening, or if the reporting is just awkward, or if the person at the restaurant was really like, “Heh, too bad, dude from Metallica… yes, we over-chrarged you, but you signed it, so now you’re fucked.” So I don’t know what that’s all about, exactly, but it doesn’t matter, because the best part is that Hetfield apparently thinks his signature may have been forged.

This doesn’t strike me as the kind of thing that’s particularly difficult to get to the bottom of. Presumably he signed a bill for some amount, and presumably he was given a receipt for it, which he presumably shoved in one of the pockets of his black jeans, and which presumably could have been easily retrieved by reaching his hand into that pocket, taking it out and using his eyes to look at it. If, after looking at it, it was determined that the bill he signed was for approximately half of the amount he was charged, well then yes, it would appear his signature was forged. If the bill he signed was for the same amount his card was charged, well then it probably was not.

Whatever… I bet he was making all sorts of super awesome angry faces the whole time.
