The L, The New School, Harper Perennial and a Provider of Cheap Alcohol To Be Named Later would like to remind you that Literary Upstart, our open-call short fiction competition and competitive reading series, holds its first semifinal reading two weeks from today, at the Slipper Room on the Lower East Side (doors at 7pm).
You should come, not just for the aforementioned to-be-named cheap booze—though we’d be lying if we said we didn’t think it was a major part of the appeal—but for the very good stories (we’re pleased with this year’s crop), the enthusiastic atmosphere, the copious swag, the drunken attempts at answering trivia questions, and so on and so on.
And hey, if you have a previously unpublished short story of 1,500 words or fewer, why not submit it? “Well, because, I mean—” No. Submit, you will submit.
(Also, if you have already submitted but haven’t received confirmation from us, please don’t be shy about resubmitting. Email issues, since resolved.)
