Scent Stories

Yesterday (or perhaps the day before) it was literary sports jerseys—evoking, of course, Greenpoint’s nerdy basketball association—but today’s useless but no less likable lit-themed consumer doodad is Scent Stories, a line of fragrances named for famous authors from Polish design firm Ah&Oh Studio. How much they’ll cost, where they will be available, or what the four scents for men—George Orwell, Marquis de Sade, Pierre Choderlos de Laclos and Edgar Allan Poe—will smell like is unclear (pig, sex, more sex and decaying flesh, respectively?), but each beautiful inkwell-shaped bottle will be topped by an author-appropriate sculpture, as pictured at right. Pending its somewhat unlikely success, this line should be expanded upon endlessly, eventually including perfumes designed after female authors: Margaret Atwood (cake), Jane Austen (fresh country air), Virginia Woolf (water), and so on.
