Happy May Two-Four! [Trans: Queen Victoria’s B-Day, When Canadians Get Really Drunk By a Lake]

All across the giant moose-thick land to our north, hundreds of Canadians (you know, all of them) are waking up from beer-heavy hangovers to the sound of mosquitoes in the tent and motorboats on the lake. Yes, it’s May Two-Four (or “May Long” as it’s called in Alberta) our annual Memorial Day-style long weekend party fest in honor (ha!) of Queen Victoria’s birthday on the 24th of May, for which we all head out of town and get drunk. Honestly, it wasn’t until my mid-twenties that I figured out it wasn’t named for a case of beer (which are called “two-fours” up north).

It’s kind of sad, really. I’ve been away from home so long now, that I didn’t even think of it until this morning. Here’s a clip of Bob and Doug, to help me keep it real (btw, those guys really do exist in Canada, all over). Oh, and Geddy Lee shows up at 3:30.
