If Every City in the World Had a Typeface, New York Would Be…

New York Typeface

The global web-based project and image library CitID is slowly assembling a catalog of artist-designed identities for every city. Its aim is “to gain global consciousness by giving a (type)face to every city worldwide,” although as you might expect, the cities with the most pro-active and forward-thinking creative classes are coming out with the coolest designs. So the New York City CitID is a meh crystalline typeface based on the glassy facade of a skyscraper (pictured), but Mexico City has a much cooler wavy, furry thing, Bristol has an incredible urban dinosaur, and Pretoria has a beautiful transit-centric satellite-view font. New York-based designers need no despair, though; the submission guidelines state that cities can have multiple designs. We can at least do better than Lincoln, Nebraska. (NOTCOT)
