Jim Kempner, who runs the eponymous Chelsea gallery at the corner of Tenth Avenue and 23rd Street, is the star of his own new mockumentary web series The Madness of Art, in which we follow the gallerist’s more or less fictional adventures in the art world. He sells a Jeff Koons wedding gift (pictured), he interviews hopelesspotential assistants, he bungles a Yoko Ono installation. He looks a little like Chuck Close and he behaves a bit like Groucho Marx (those bushy eyebrows!), and even though the series is at times annoyingly self-promotional, and not always very well-acted, it gives the often pompous Chelsea scene a nice dressing-down.
