Live Music at Summerscreem: Mirror Mirror and Light Asylum at Labyrinth

07/13/2010 5:25 PM |

Tomorrow, before the glitter, before the lightning bolts, and before the felt of Summerscreen‘s free outdoor screening of Labyrinth in the McCarren Park ballfields (N 12th and Bedford Sts), we invite you to enjoy two FREE live performances from Mirror Mirror and Light Asylum. The two bands were hand-picked by the geniuses over at Free Williamsburg. Videos and other nerdy references to muppets after the jump.

The foreboding Morrissey-like vocals from the dudes of Mirror Mirror will get you in the mood for giant fantastical goblin puppets, and really, what other band can say they have that skill? Check out the video for “New Horizons.” If watching it doesn’t give you another reason to wear something metallic tomorrow well then, we’ll owe you an Asia Dog or something.

Following Mirror Mirror, the synth-happy members of Light Asylum will be gracing our presence at SummerScreen. The post-punk duo is not afraid of pumping out wavering notes that sound like they could be the soundtrack to a Goosebumps novel, nor would they be afraid of some scary David Bowie, or rather, sounding like scary David Bowie. Later in the night when we all have to close our eyes during the scene with those decapitated Firies singing some song about being in a gang or whatever, we’ll remember how great Light Asylum was, and watch this video on our iPhones while we’re in line for more Asia Dog.

Mirror Mirror performs at 6:15 and Light Asylum at 7:15. Gates open at 6. See you there, lightning bolt face!
