I mentioned yesterday that I’m growing ever more excited about False Priest, the new Of Montreal album due out in September. But now there’s even more to look forward to: word comes this morning that the band will be hitting the road for a string of dates with their friend and now frequent collaborator Janelle Monae, who’s been known to put on a hell of an elaborate show herself. It’d be worth the price of admission for just a standard double bill, but in an interview with Pitchfork, Of Montreal frontman Kevin Barnes revealed that they have something else up their sleeves:
“We’re going to marry the two shows together, in a way. It doesn’t feel like you go see a band, and there’s a pause, and there’s another pause, and then it’s over. We want to control the environment from right when the doors open, and have performance art and video performances and so many different levels of artistic stimulation that would go on throughout the whole night, so there’s never a moment where there’s house music or boring lighting. We want to transform the venues each night, so it becomes this exceptional experience for everyone.”
Seems like this is gonna pretty pretty hard to fuck with, doesn’t it? Clear your schedule: they’ll hit Terminal 5 on 9/17 and 9/18.
