Minnesota’s junior senator, him, Al Franken, is sensible and sees no reason why we should be grievously offended if some American Muslims want to build a religiously oriented community center a few blocks from a place where some other Muslims once did something bad. At an appearance in Illinois, he dismissed the Ground Zero Mosque controversy as an election-year “wedge issue” ginned up by conservatives, and reassured audience members, “It’s a community center. They’re going to have a gym. They’re going to have point guards. Muslim point guards.”

To which one in five Americans responded that they had always thought of Barack Obama as more of a 2-guard.
