NYC Health Commissioner Thomas Farley is not pleased about Camel’s attempt to penetrate the youthful neighborhood of Williamsburg, a youth-driven part of Brooklyn, which is itself a youthful borough (of youth). Said Farley, of Camel’s decision to advertise specifically to non-cowboys under the age of 60:
I am particularly disturbed that this effort to recruit young smokers exploits the name and image of Brooklyn’s vibrant Williamsburg neighborhood.
