After the August dispute between Frank Ciolli, owner and operator of Grimaldi’s Pizzeria in Dumbo, and landlord Dorothy Waxman, over a possible eviction for the famous pie-purveyor and allegations that due rent had been offered but checks were not accepted, has taken another turn as the Post reports that Cioli is suing his landlady. The reason, according to papers filed with the Brooklyn Supreme Court, is that she’s out to get his rare coal-burning brick pizza oven (pictured), which is, of course, the secret to the pies’ delicious flavor, and which Ciolli carved out of a mountainside in northern Italy where the end of a rainbow landed using nothing but his great-grandfather’s handmade pizza slicer.
