Worried About Losing Fans to the Brooklyn Nets, Knicks Buy Ads Rather Than Good Players

  • What a succesful local basketball team looks like.

“Putting a billboard up like that so close to the Barclays Center, it’s like putting a mosque near Ground Zero. I’m up in arms about this.”

Talking to the Brooklyn Paper about the Knicks’ desperate attempt to hang on to Brooklyn basketball fans with an ad campaign, a Brooklyn hoops fan in no way gets hyperbolic. The text of the ad?

“You: The republic of Brooklyn.
Us: The original ball team of the Empire State
We: Are unstoppable together.
Now: Is the time to represent.”

If things get any more heated, Nets owner Mikhail Prokhorov will probably just buy the Knicks and dissolve the team.
