Fuck You Brooklyn Paper, for Giving Hateful Bill Donohue a Platform

I can’t fucking believe this. Sure, Brooklyn Paper Editor Gersh Kuntzman is generally just a goof with a terrible fondness for bad puns (and terrible jokes), but I’m really disappointed that he would give hateful Catholic extremist Bill Donohue an opportunity to offer his “perspective” on the whole ridiculous annual “War on Christmas” kerfuffle. I’m not going to get into that actual “controversy,” but here’s Bill Donohue on the systemic rape and abuse of children under the auspices of the Catholic Church in Ireland.

“Such things as kissing, inadequate heating, inappropriate sexual talk… if that’s going to count as “abuse” than I regard this as hysteria.” Also, emotional abuse and kicking don’t count either. Just listen to the whole thing, it’s fucking unbelievable. Way to go, Gersh, hope the page views are worth it.

  • good article and link, jonny.

  • Thanks for the fuck you, but you should know that Donohue’s op-ed was a counterpoint to an op-ed by David Silverman, an atheist (see http://www.brooklynpaper.com/stories/33/49…).

It was an op-ed package, not a forum for Donohue.

As such, I don’t think the fuck you is fair.

    Thanks

  • @Gersh
Oh, I know it was part of a “point/counterpoint” op-ed. But any platform given to Bill Donohue is worthy of a “fuck you.”

And frankly, if I was someone concerned about the alleged secularization of America (the so-called War on Christmas) I’d be pretty upset having a wingnut like Donohue speaking for me. So kudos if this was, in fact, a sneaky way of undermining that position…

  • Putting aside the point-counterpoint feature’s perpetual confusion of objectivity with an abdication of all critical thought, I find the implied equivalency between “an atheist” and Bill Donohue to be, quite frankly, incredibly offensive.

    Yes, this.
