Here Now Are the Ten Most Re-Tweeted Tweets of the Year

Well, if the onslaught of year-end lists about books, records, films, restaurants and god knows what else has started to wear on your nerves a litle bit, here’s a different kind of year-end temperature-taking: Twitter has released its list of the ten most re-tweeted tweets of the year, and it confirms something you sort of had a hunch about all along—that most of the people on Twitter have no real grasp on what is funny or smart or interesting.

Or, I shouldn’t say that, really. The most re-tweeted tweet of the year belongs to Stephen Colbert, who, in the wake of the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, quipped, “In honor of oil-soaked birds, ‘tweets’ are now ‘gurgles.'” to his 1.9 million followers, 44,000 of whom saw fit to re-tweet it to their own.

After that, though, jeez. Drake came in at number two with the remarkably uninsightful “We always ignore the ones who adore us, and adore the ones who ignore us.” followed by Lil Wayne’s actually-pretty-awesome “Aaaaaaahhhhhhmmmmm baaaaakkkkkkkkkk!” after being released from prison, as well as Justin Bieber’s “Te quiero mucho mi amor,” which… I don’t know, who cares.

Other musicians in the Top 10 include Rihanna’s not at all lol-worthy “Justin Bieber just flashed me his abs in the middle of a restaurant! Wow! He actually had a lil 6 pack! Sexy, lol!”, Lady Gaga’s boring, Drake-like “I’m beautiful in my way, ’cause God makes no mistakes. I’m on the right track, baby. I was Born This Way,” and, of course, Kanye’s simple, understated “I’m sorry Taylor.”

I’m also sorry, everyone. But at least it’s not another best albums list, right? Right? Merry Christmas.
