On Tuesday we learned that Brooklyn Navy Yard film and TV production complex Steiner Studios had secured financing to double its square footage and add eleven new soundstages, and today the Post reports that the expanded facility will also be home to Brooklyn College’s brand new Graduate School of Cinema.

The school expects to be ready for its first semester in the fall of 2013, which gives a general idea of the construction schedule for the studio expansion, which is set to begin this spring. When it opens, the Graduate School of Cinema will have space for up to 275 students in nine degree programs. Tuition fees for the degree will amount to $35,000, a pittance compared to most film schools, whose final bill comes to something around $150,000. The Brooklyn College program will boast another huge advantage: being the only film school housed in a working film studio. Maybe they can snag famous filmmakers between scenes for guest lectures.
