Here we go, you guys. As we mentioned back in December, Northside will make its return to the streets of Williamsburg and Greenpoint on June 16-19 for a third year of music, film and art. You know the drill by now: We at The L curate a few lineups of our own, leaving the majority of the shows in the hands of the community’s most forward-thinking independent record labels, bloggers, radio stations, record stores and other tastemakers. They’re the ones we owe for the time Free Energy played an opening set at Public Assembly before anybody had ever really heard of those guys, or when Kurt Vile won over a sweaty, jam-packed crowd on the cusp of signing to Matador Records, or any number of other “saw this band before they were big” moments that Northside strives to deliver… not to mention for helping us rally together the likes of The Hold Steady, Les Savy Fav, Liars, Fucked Up, The Fiery Furnaces, Wavves, Titus Andronicus, Sunset Rubdown, Woods, Real Estate, Tame Impala, Twin Sister, DOM, Cults and the hundreds of others who have played the fest during its first two years. Trust us, though, when we say this year will be the best yet.
Aside from the 100+ shows set to take place in nearly every venue in Williamsburg and Greenpoint, indie film screenings curated by some of the most on-point names in the business, and neighborhood art galleries opening their doors free to the public in conjunction with Greenpoint Open Studios, we have plenty of new things in the works too, including benefit shows for the Open Space Alliance at a new 5,000-capacity outdoor space at McCarren Park in the heart of Williamsbug, a DIY film competition, and panel discussions exploring the ways business innovators intersect with creative inventors. More on all that later, though. In the meantime, you’ll want to circle March 10 on your calendars and keep your eyes glued here, as we’ll be announcing our first batch of bands and showcase presenters, and four-day (now all-ages) badges will go on sale then. In short, get excited.
