The Felice Brothers Sign to Fat Possum Records, New Album Coming Later This Spring

It’s been quite a while since I last thought about Upstate New York’s The Felice Brothers, a band I was briefly obsessed with all the way back in 2008, when they released a very, very good self-titled album containing, among other undeniable would-be hits, “Frankie’s Gun.” It’s been long enough that, though I’m embarrassed to admit it, I didn’t even know they’d released the follow-up to that album, Yonder is the Clock, in 2009. So, you know, I’m gonna go listen to that one now. Maybe you should to?

That way, we’ll all be good and ready for them when they release another new full-length later this spring. It will be their fifth overall, and their first for Fat Possum Records, whose roster also includes The Walkmen, Wavves, Andrew Bird and, of course, Yuck. No title or exact release date have been revealed yet, but they have announced a tour, which kicks off in mid-March at SXSW and takes them straight through the beginning of May. At this point, sadly, the closest they’ll get to the city is Maxwell’s on March 27th. They do have two scheduled off-days between that show and their next, in Philly, though. So maybe be on the lookout for a proper NYC show, and maybe even some TV appearances?

  • Yonder is the Clock is kind of great! I also really liked the self-titled record and didn’t know Yonder is the Clock was coming until about a week before it came out. It doesn’t have a song as amazing as “Frankie’s Gun!” but it might be more consistent overall. The slow songs on it are better than the slow songs on the self-titled, I’d say.
