We’re pleased as punch to announce a new part of Northside: The Do-It-Yourself (DIY) Film Competition.

Like last year, Northside Film will include a curated series of feature films screened for badge holders and ticket buyers at Williamsburg theater indieScreen (last year’s lineup, you may recall, showcased films by James Franco, Todd Solondz, Michael Fassbender and more). Now, new for 2011, there will be a second component &#8212 a DIY shorts and features competition &#8212 with the goal of bringing developing filmmakers together under one roof. The finalists’ works will be screened at UnionDocs in Williamsburg before a jury of DIY pioneers, Brooklyn celebrities and established directors. And the best part? Prizes include cash, an exclusive Northside rooftop screening, and camera rental packages. Hellz yeah, camera rental packages!

The submission form is available here, where you can also view a list of requirements and guidelines. Please note, the deadline to apply is May 1, 2011. Tell your friends, take a camera, and get shooting. We want to see what life looks like to you.
