As you may have heard, tonight marks the beginning of BAM‘s monthlong, 25-film series in tribute to Catherine Deneuve, the world’s most famous Miami Vice fan. (She’s in town promoting Francois Ozon’s Potiche, which plays various venues as part of Rendez-Vous with French Cinema this weekend before opening later in the month.)
You can read Justin Stewart’s rundown of the many essential art-house titles and oft-overlooked album cuts in the BAM series here; but we would be remiss in not noting, with a slight bit of breathless incredulity, that be at BAM tonight, for a Q&A after a sold-out screening of Potiche, and to introduce the late show of Polanski’s Repulsion (which is not sold out, as of this writing).
After which, she will presumably be escorted back behind the tinted windows of a towncar and chauffeured back to Manhattan. But still! If you have plans to be at Stonehome, or Roman’s, or Vini tonight at like 7-8:30, or 10 and later, you should dress really nice so as to make a good impression.
