Northside Open Studios and Bushwick Open Studios

During two weekend-long events in the coming month, North Brooklyn artists will welcome their peers and the public into their work spaces for Northside Open Studios and Bushwick Open Studios. From June 3 to 5, artists in “East Williamsburg,” Bushwick and Ridgewood will be showing their stuff, and neighborhood galleries will hold all kinds of special events and exhibition; two weeks later, in conjunction with our own Northside Festival, artists and art spaces in North Williamsburg and Greenpoint will do the same—and registration is still open for both events.

Bushwick Open Studios 2011 (June 3-5): With over 350 artists, galleries and groups already signed up (and registration open through June 2), you could (and should) spend the whole weekend going from one Bushwick warehouse to the next without seeing it all. As the overwhelming directory indicates, in addition to individual artists there are all kinds of studios, workshops, performance groups, galleries and so on taking part. Also: a farm, a fashion show, a sculpture garden, an independent lit fair and, um, Burqa rentals. As always, start the weekend with Maps and Mimosas at Norte Maar on Saturday morning. Check back in the first week of June of a comprehensive preview and ongoing coverage.

Northside Open Studios (June 16-19): Last year this was just Greenpoint Open Studios, and it was already epic, so we can only imagine what the addition of North Williamsburg will do—aside from all the ‘Burg galleries that will be joining in the fun. Registration is open through Friday May 27 (register here), and so far over 100 artists, exhibition spaces and events are lined up, including a print and zine fair, open studios at Camel Art Space, exhibitions at the Fowler Arts Collective, Janet Kurnatowski Gallery and IN RiVERS Art Space, among many more. Check back here the week of Northside for a full preview and extensive coverage.
