If you’ve been to Google.com today (does anyone still do this?) you’ve noticed that the special occasion being celebrated by the homepage Google Doodle is the summer solstice, in the form of a blooming scene starring Japanese Pop art superstar Takashi Murakami‘s trademark (literally, TM) characters Kaikai and Kiki. He made a winter solstice version for Googlers in the Southern Hemisphere too…

As many have noted, today isn’t necessarily the first day of summer in the North and winter in the South, merely the longest and shortest day of the year in each, respectively, making Murakami’s titles somewhat misleading. Almost as misleading as walking into a museum and ending up in a Louis Vuitton boutique.
