Every year City Harvest collects about 28 million pounds of excess food from restaurants, grocers and farms to feed around 300,000 hungry New Yorkers. Running a program like this ain’t cheap, however, hence their annual fundraiser. This year, the Summer in the City restaurant tasting and cocktail party is going to feature some pretty awesome restaurants, including some of Brooklyn’s best like the Michelin-starred Dressler, Montreal-style Jewish deli Mile End and whiskey-and-meat palace Char No. 4.
Manhattan is well represented, of course, with some of my personal favorites like Jim Lahey’s Chelsea pizza place Co. and hot new Thai spot Kin Shop. Will there be booze? Of course there will, including cocktails, wine and beer from breweries like Sixpoint and Ithaca Beer. Dreamy Brooklyn indie-pop band Savoir Adore will be there as well, giving you the chance to gently head-bob those calories away.
