While a group of clean-cut Aussies took center stage at Prospect Park, the grizzled and unshaven gathered on Pier 54 along the Hudson River to toast hot-blooded rock ‘n’ roll. Few do it better than Deer Tick, as photographer Sam Polcer notes: “If I wanted to be pretentious, I’d say that if the Black Dirt Sessions album is the soundtrack to a night drowning your sorrows at some kind of depressing bar, [Deer Tick's forthcoming album] Divine Providence is the sound of your glass smashing against the wall when you decide it’s time to go home.” He would know, he caught their show last night along with openers Translations and Dom.
