Stop Listening to the New Girls Album for Five Minutes and Watch Wild Flag’s Video for “Romance”

Wild Flag – Romance
from Merge Records on Vimeo.

With just a week to go before Wild Flag‘s much-anticipated, already acclaimed album hits record stores, the 90s-hailing demigoddesses unveil their first video, one which intersperses footage of them playing at Doug Fir Lounge in Portland with scenes of them wreaking mild havoc during one particularly eventful office lunch hour. Seriously, guys, who made the pie chart that’s shaped like a square? (That joke will make more sense after watching.)

And in other “thank goodness it’s fall” news, yes, that new Girls album is streaming over at The Hype Machine, while pre-Twitter DIY-ers Clap Your Hands Say Yeah’s long-awaited new one is available for your listening pleasure right here. This is, officially, the best start to fall we indie-rock types have ever had. Live it up.

  • What is that first record she knocks down? At first, I thought it was one of the reissues of Blue Trane, but it’s not. The others are all on either Merge or Matador — David Comes to Life, Majesty Shredding, Gimme Fiction, Brutalist Bricks, one I can’t see ’cause it seems to fall before she touches it, Kurt Vile, then Arcade Fire at the end. SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME.

  • Madlib, SHADES OF BLUE.

  • Yeah, yeah, I was already told. I hate myself.

  • Why has nobody mentioned that the establishing shot is 100 Jay St in Dumbo? I’ve never liked that building UNTIL NOW.

  • I thought so! Then I read somewhere that the video was shot entirely in Portland and second-guessed myself… but that’s totally 100 Jay, isn’t it?
