If these office walls could talk, they’d say, “God, you guys write an awful lot about that band Weekend,” which is true, we totally do. They had us as soon as we heard Sports, their full-length debut for Slumberland last fall; seeing them play at SXSW this spring, and then again at Mercury Lounge in April, sealed the deal. In each case, their slaying noise and feedback barreled down, but so did the melodies. That subversive-sweet mix is something we can totally get behind.
NOW YOU CAN TOO. See what’s happening here? They’ll be in town for two shows this weekend, hitting up Glasslands on Saturday before playing Mercury Lounge on Sunday. We’d like for them to burst your eardrums (they play really loudly, in case you haven’t caught on), so we’re giving away a pair of tickets to their show tomorrow night. To win, tweet at us via @TheLMagazine, naming your all-time favorite band other than Weekend on the storied Slumberland roster, by 1pm. We’ll carefully examine the entries, run a few lab tests, and name one lucky guy/gal the winner. In the meantime, take a listen to “Hazel,” a cut from their forthcoming Red EP, then look us straight in the eye and tell us that you wouldn’t be writing about them all the time too:
