On Tuesday night shortly after 10pm two 12-year-old boys who were sharing a bike—one pedaled while the other stood on pegs, as seen above—were struck by a hit-and-run driver who may have been drag racing in Gravesend. One of the boys is at Lutheran Hospital in critical condition being treated for cerebral hemorrhaging, while the other is being treated for leg injuries, ABC News reports.

The accident happened near the intersection of East 4th Street and Avenue S. Neither the driver of the car that hit the boys nor the driver of the car against which it was apparently racing remained at the scene of the accident. One of the boys was apparently found unconscious at the scene.

Back in April 39-year-old cyclist Joseph Granati was killed in in a collision that occurred just over a dozen blocks from Tuesday’s hit-and-run.
