Clinton Hill Muggers Prey on the Intoxicated

Since you’re reading The L, odds are, like, 80 percent that you live or hang out in Clinton Hill and enjoy a tipple from time to time. So, in the interest of public service, let us alert you to the fact that as many as two robbers are preying on those in Clinton Hill after hours—often those with an odor of alcohol on their breaths, the Brooklyn Paper reports. At least five times since Christmas, people have been robbed in the neighborhood between the hours of 2:15 a.m. and 5:15 a.m., most notably (because dramatic surveillance footage surfaced) on Christmas, when a 28-year-old woman was trailed home from a holiday party by a man on a bicycle who would assault her at her front door. The other thief brandishes a silver handgun. “I’m not blaming the victims,” the local police commander told the paper, “but many of them are intoxicated so they’re easy prey.”

Combined with the report I heard on NPR the other day about “drunk walking”—”every mile walked drunk turns out to be eight times more dangerous than the mile driven drunk”—sounds like we should all be calling more cabs. (Or, you know, going home at reasonable hours and staying sober. Haha, imagine?)
