Interactive Map Shows What Subway System Might Have Been

This week, WNYC put together an interactive map that allows users to see what the subway system would have looked like if all the plans for new and extended subway lines had actually happened, and if now-abandoned stations had stayed open. Some of what could have been in Brooklyn includes a 2/5 line that would have extended into Sheepshead Bay, a branch of the F that would have swung through South Williamsburg and curved into Flatlands, and another that would have gone into Staten Island. Abandoned stations? The South 4th Street station in Williamsburg where all that secret graffiti is would have been on that Flatlands-bound F; that animated art show you can see on Manhattan-bound B and Q trains is in an abandoned Myrtle Avenue station. Play with the map here.
