Despite the soundproofing problems and other quirks that the space at 245 Grand Street taxed on its former occupant Bruar Falls, there are plans for a new venue to open there later this month. Here’s the lowdown: It’ll be called The Grand Victory and, according to its Facebook page, will host “both local and national acts as well as dance parties, comedy and burlesque,” which sounds awfully similar to its predecessor, to be honest. Whether or not they’ve been able to lift the midnight noise curfew that was so detrimental to Bruar remains to be seen, but, according to Facebook, at least the bar will be opened daily until 4am.

Things will kick things off on Thursday, January 19 with local punk-leaning bands The Threads, Bikini Carwash and Born Loose, one of the final bands to play Bruar Falls. (Sentimentality!) More show announcements are trickling in; check those out here. If it means anything to you, the venue “likes” Ty Segall on Facebook, so it’s already won me over. Here’s hoping for a long, successful stay.
